Independent Sentinel

No matter what the news pundits would have you believe, it is always, it seems, the independents who decide elections. We are the great un-party. Independents (small "i") are not ideological. Sentinels are watchers. Figure us out.

President tells truth fror the first time

Well, more or less, He admits we are not winning, but says we are not losing. OoooK.

For some reason he believes that the historic, butt-kicking given to the GOP, in November, is a message to him to find a way to succeed in Iraq. Ofcourse, no one is really sure what success would look like.

See, here's what I don't get: Why is it that the "ever-so-moral" GOP, meaning Bush and Cheney, at the moment, do not understand that deception is not a foundation for success, especially when success depends on winning hearts and minds. Everyone in the Arab world knows that Bush and Cheney lied through their teeth to get into Iraq. Hell, everyone in the rest of the world knows it as well.

They all knew, long before most Americans were willling to admit they had been lied to, or cared, one way or the other.

This war was, from the beginning, illegal and built on deception, fear-mongering and vengeance-seeking. This is a very ugly triad upon which to build anything.

We will never win anything in Iraq, but we will lose more blood and treasure, trying to save the honor of a lying loser or two, who by very definition, are anything but honorable.

U.S. Not Winning War in Iraq, Bush Says for 1st Time - washingtonpost.com:

President Bush acknowledged for the first time yesterday that the United States is not winning the war in Iraq and said he plans to expand the overall size of the 'stressed' U.S. armed forces to meet the challenges of a long-term global struggle against terrorists.

As he searches for a new strategy for Iraq, Bush has now adopted the formula advanced by his top military adviser to describe the situation. 'We're not winning, we're not losing,' Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post. The assessment was a striking reversal for a president who, days before the November elections, declared, 'Absolutely, we're winning.'
